Google quietly bought Apportable last year

Google secretly acquired the team at mobile app development startup Apportable more than a year ago, VentureBeat has learned. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but multiple sources said that it was an acqui-hire.

HSBC and Bank of America Merrill Lynch use Hyperledger Project for blockchain trade finance

Bank of America Merrill Lynch, HSBC and the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) are using a blockchain prototype to streamline the paper-heavy world of global trade. The consortium used the Linux Foundation open source Hyperledger Project blockchain fabric, supported by IBM Research and IBM Global Business Services.

Apple announces its first invite-only $200,000 bug bounty programme at Black Hat conference

Apple is planning to launch its first-ever, invite-only bug bounty programme, offering hackers and security researchers up to $200,000 to find vulnerabilities in iOS and iCloud. Set to launch in September, the programme was announced by Ivan Krstić, head of Apple Security Engineering and Architecture, at the Black Hat conference on 4 August and is the first of its kind for the Cupertino company.

UberEATS debuts food-delivery service in Phoenix

Ridesharing giant Uber has launched its food-delivery services in Phoenix.

UberEATS is a standalone app that features a curated list of top Phoenix-area restaurants, focusing on local eateries rather than chains. First tested in Los Angeles, the app now is available in nearly 20 other cities around the world.
